School Uniform

School uniform, correctly worn, promotes a mind-set for learning because it instils confidence, dignity and pride amongst our young people. The aim of the St Gregory’s school uniform is to emphasise a sense of universal acceptance, and upholds the Christian value that we are all equal in the eyes of God.

Wearing the St Gregory’s uniform denotes our students as ambassadors for our school, and encourages them to see themselves as a team with a strong sense of belonging. Additionally, it builds students’ self-esteem as a community of equals, and provides comfort and safety both when learning in school and when representing St Gregory’s in the wider world.

Regular checks are carried out at school to see that the uniform is properly worn. All clothing should be clearly marked with the student’s name.
Students who do not arrive to school with the correct uniform will be supported with uniform correction by their pastoral team.

Guidelines

Students are encouraged to take pride in their school uniform and this means:

  • Make-up: Students are to wear no visible make-up, false eyelashes, nail varnish or artificial nails or nail extensions.
  • Hairstyles: Hair is to be worn in a smart and business-like style, with discreet accessories in navy or black. There must be no hair dye other than one single, natural colour.
  • Jewellery: No jewellery is permitted other than a watch (smart watches are not allowed), a small cross and chain and a pair of small plain stud earrings, or a single small plain stud in either ear.
  • Footwear: Shoes should be plain black leather or faux leather, low-heeled and sufficiently robust and comfortable to wear on the journey to and from school, as well as throughout the school day. There should be no trimmings (ie. metal bars, labels, tags, decorations or visible logos). Soles, lacing and stitching must be black.

Please note that it is not acceptable for students to wear trainers of any sort, and black leather school shoes are required. Any students wishing to play football etc during break and lunchtime should change their school shoes for trainers and the reverse after the break - this is to prevent damage to shoes and mud/dirt being brought into the building.
Trainers for the 3G must be Astro turf trainers or moulded football boots. (Astro turf trainers can be used on all surfaces and will prevent the need to buy trainers and football boots.)

A final decision on what is acceptable rests with the school.

Lost Property

The school operates a Lost Property office for any items that have been found and handed in. The Lost Property office is located opposite NL2 and is open during lunchtime on Mondays to Thursdays - please refer to the Lost Property Office noticeboard for specific information on opening times. We kindly request that all clothing items and property should be marked clearly with a student’s name.

Second Hand Uniform

Friends of St Gregory's operate a Second Hand Uniform Shop. If you need to purchase any item, please email friends@sgschool.org.uk with your enquiry stating the item, the size, your child's name, and your child’s year group, so they can check their stock. Items can be paid for through ParentPay using the reference FoSG SHU. The turnaround for requests is approximately one week. Donations of wearable and clean uniform are gratefully accepted and can be handed in to Reception.

Aerosols

Please note that aerosols or sprays are not allowed in school. Any deodorants must be roll-ons - this is to prevent serious incidents. Aerosols can cause breathing issues with some students and staff, resulting in them becoming unwell or even hospitalised. Please ensure that your child does not bring any aerosol items into school.
